The A, B, C’s of Organizing

A – is for art: Instead of keeping all of your kid’s art work, take pictures of them and create photo books to enjoy for years to come.

B – is for bed risers: Create extra storage under your bed for shoes, out of season clothing, extra blankets, and more.

C – is for cake stand: A stylish way to organize bathroom accessories such as lotions and make-up.

D – is for donate: Keep a bag or box in each closet to collect donate items. Once it is full, make a trip to your local donation center. Don’t forget to get a receipt for your taxes.

E – is for envelopes: Use envelopes to organize coupons by each store. Keep them in your purse so you never leave home without them.

F – is for friends: Invite a friend over to help you de-clutter your closet.

G – is for gifts: Consider giving gifts that people can actually use such as; a museum membership, restaurant gift card, or tickets to a play.

H – is for hanger: No more wire hangers. Take your wire hangers to the cleaners for recycling. Replace them with slim velvet hangers that maximize space and create a clean look.

I – is for ice-cube tray: Use an ice-cube tray to organize small jewelry like earnings and rings.

J – is for junk drawer: Conquer the junk drawer by using drawer dividers to sort items into categories. You will be less likely to throw something into a drawer, if it is organized.

K – is for knives: Use a magnetic strip to organize knives. Counter space is prime real estate!

L – is for lid organizer: Store your small clutches/purses upright using a kitchen lid organizer.

M – is for magazines. Roll up old magazines and use them as boot shapers.

N – is for new: Use the 1 in, 1 out rule when bringing home a new item.

O – is for over-the-door: Use an over-the-door clear plastic organizer to store everyday office supplies such as scissors, tape, post-its, pens, and more.

P –is for pegboard: Maximize vertical space while organizing everything from small tools to jewelry.

Q – is for quality: Choose quality over quantity.

R – is or for routine: Establish an end of day routine for the entire family. Set a timer for 20 minutes, turn on the music, gather your items, and put them back in their “homes.”

S – is for shower rings: Place shower rings onto a hanger for organizing and displaying your scarves.

T – is for “TO DO” List: Spend 15 minutes at the end of each day creating your “TO DO” list for the following day.

U – is for under-bed storage: Use the space under your bed to store extra blankets, towels, and linens.

V – is for vacuum: Store out of season clothes in a vacuum-sealed plastic bag.

W- is for wine rack: Use a wine rack to hold rolled up towels in your guest bathroom.

X – is for Xerox: Keep a Xerox copy of your passport when traveling. Leave the original in a hotel safe or other secure site.

Y – is for yard sale: De-clutter your home while making money. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

Z – is for Zip-lock: They come in many sizes and are perfect for storing everything from office supplies, to cords, to receipts.
